DESIGN INTENT –

SPACE WITHIN PLACE: UNITY, MYSTERY AND INFINITY.

The focus for the landscape design is within the conservatory structure of the eco science wing. An appropriate landscape was explored to enhance the interior of the building, offering a space where students and teachers can feel part of the garden while going about their day to day activities. The garden itself is a working environment where students and teachers can interact with this space in real-time.

Our landscape design addresses the following key areas and elements;

The Space:

  • We will explore shifting levels to create forms and rooms within the conservatory. We can achieve this by strategically excavating and filling segmented parts of the landscape where a playful mix of materials such as natural rock and concrete blend together seamlessly.

Planting:

  • Given the temperate conditions the conservatory creates, a carefully selected mix of plantings was explored. The planting scheme consists of indigenous and ornamental species which are formulated.

Water:

  • In addition to the space we focused on the use of water. The relationship between the space and water was caefully planned out as strong element that juxtaposes the free formed atmosphere of a landscape.
  • Water is an important addition to irrigation which will regulate the temperature within the space.
